The American Southwest is steeped in legend. From untamed deserts to Wild West towns, its stories are as rich and mysterious as its beautiful expansive vistas. Here, we’ve ventured to two remote mines in the Southwest to join two of the region’s most legendary stones into one epic collection.
White Buffalo has a bold, captivating presence with a distinctive white background and black matrix and is named after the white buffalo –– a symbol of sacred life and abundance to Native Americans. White Buffalo is found in only one mine worldwide, the Otteson Mine located in Tonopah, Nevada.
Located near Globe, Arizona, the legendary Sleeping Beauty Mine is named after the mountain range where it is located, which, from a distance, is said to resemble a sleeping woman with her arms crossed. As one of the only varieties known for having little or no matrix, its classic robin’s egg blue hue represents the ideal turquoise color for many gem connoisseurs. But supply of this turquoise icon is diminishing by the day. Th e mine closed production in 2012, and collectors have been snatching up what little supply is left.
These pieces are handmade in New Mexico by legendary silversmith GL Miller. This collection is so much more than beautiful jewelry. Each piece is a Native American artifact steeped in meaning and history. It’s time you owned a couple of legends.
