Through our travels in Italy, we’ve discovered that jewelry isn’t the only artisan craft that Italy is renowned for. It’s also celebrated all over the world for the extraordinary artisanal production of lace. Many legends surround the origins of lacemaking. On the Italian island of Burano, not far from Venice, it is believed that the fine spray created by the splashing of a mermaid’s tail inspired the elaborate motifs enriching plain white cotton, linen and silk. Another story tells of a woman, betrothed to an Adriatic fisherman, who received from her fiancé a fishnet interlaced with a web of glistening seaweed. When the man left for war, the girl studied the weave of the beloved gift and reproduced its pattern: so, lace was created, a true labor of love.
Our new Italian-made Lace Collection pays homage to the Italian art of lace making with a delicate, intricate design crafted from genuine sterling silver. The exquisite detail on these pieces gives an almost ethereal feel that only jewelry artisans with a high level of skill and precision can achieve. Featuring genuine amethyst, this gold-finished sterling silver collection uniquely honors two pillars of Italian craft.
